Catacomb Games: Reused Game Boards or Funerary Inscriptions?

چکیده

Abstract Several marble slabs fashioned like game boards for XII scripta/Alea come from Christian catacombs in Rome. Often deliberately cut or fragmented, they were used as funeral slabs. The general opinion is that these have found a secondary use the context. present paper presents critical discussion of this interpretation. differ several details real boards. Games on Random Boards

We consider the following two-player game on a graph. A token is located at a vertex, and the players take turns to move it along an edge to a vertex that has not been visited before. A player who cannot move loses. We analyse outcomes with optimal play on percolation clusters of Euclidean lattices. On Z with two different percolation parameters for odd and even sites, we prove that the game ha...

Biased games on random boards

In this paper we analyze biased Maker-Breaker games and Avoider-Enforcer games, both played on the edge set of a random board G ∼ G(n, p). In Maker-Breaker games there are two players, denoted by Maker and Breaker. In each round, Maker claims one previously unclaimed edge of G and Breaker responds by claiming b previously unclaimed edges. We consider the Hamiltonicity game, the perfect matching...

To game or not to game: teaching transportation planning with board games

1 Traditional “chalk and talk” teaching in civil engineering has gradually been re2 placed with the idea of active learning focusing on encouraging students’ knowl3 edge discovery with innovative pedagogical methods and tools. One interesting tool 4 is the board game. This research examines the efficacy of adopting transportation 5 board games as a tool in graduate-level transportation planning...

Fast Strategies In Maker-Breaker Games Played on Random Boards

In this paper we analyze classical Maker-Breaker games played on the edge set of a sparse random board G ∼ Gn,p. We consider the Hamiltonicity game, the perfect matching game and the k-connectivity game. We prove that for p(n) ≥ polylog(n)/n, the board G ∼ Gn,p is typically such that Maker can win these games asymptotically as fast as possible, i.e. within n+ o(n), n/2 + o(n) and kn/2 + o(n) mo...
